“Man Versus Ferry” – Sydney cyclist stars in short film about his race against Newfoundland ferry

A short film shot in Cape Breton in August 2023 called Man vs Ferry has been showcased at 13 festivals over the past year.

The film shows 67 year old avid cyclist Paul MacDougall peddling on a road that runs parallel with a harbour and a large passenger-cargo ship in the background.

MacDougall hired digital production company NovaStream in August 2023 to film him racing against the Marine Atlantic Ferry over a 5.5 km stretch of road.

MacDougall was pleased with the film so he decided to submit it to film festivals in categories featuring projects with a running time of roughly five minutes.

Listen to find out who won the race. And why he credits the late film maker David Lynch as an inspiration.
