Prince Edward County sponsors accessibility workshop for businessesThis year, all public establishments in Ontario are required to ensure that their facilities are fully accessible to people with disabilities — and while many businesses and organizations have been implementing the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) since it was passed in 2005, many others are struggling
Last week, Prince Edward County sponsored a free, full day accessibility workshop for business owners to improve accessibility at their establishments. The workshop drew people from retail businesses, hospitality industry, community living and others interested in learning about accessibility. Participants gained knowledge about AODA standards, types of disabilities and challenges, document creation and the importance of being accessibility minded business champions.
The full day workshop was facilitated by Pina D’Intino, herself visually impaired and David Wysocki, an occupational therapist who both work with Aequum Global Access. CJPE News went to the workshop to find out how businesses are doing and what they need to learn.
