There will also be dredging in the harbours and $13 million to rebuild the Coast Guard wharf and station in the area.

Yesterday was a big news day in the south shore Bay of Islands community of Lark Harbour. ACOA and Rural Economic Development Minister Gudie Hutchings was there to announce assistance for the Lark Harbour-York Harbour-Little Port Harbour Authority. She says they will get a share of $100 million that is to be invested in NL for new wharf and infrastructure. There will also be dredging in the harbours and $13 million to rebuild the Coast Guard wharf and station in the area. This will mean they can handle larger vessels, have more power and storage, and will help keep everyone safe on the water. Lark Harbour Mayor Wade Park says they’ve been waiting for this day to come for about 6 years. Meanwhile, Lark Harbour Days was held last week celebrating the town’s 50th anniversary. Park says it was a great turnout and this news is the icing on the cake. The recent federal budget committed $460 million to repair harbours across the country. There are over 80 ports and harbours in NL with about 300 volunteer driven harbour authorities. There are only 900 harbour authorities in Canada.
