3 seniors charged with abduction of 14-year-old Melissa Morrell

Melissa Morrell was safely located in a cabin early this morning.

RNC have made multiple arrests in connection with the abduction of 14 year old Melissa Morrell of St. John’s. Police arrested a 72 year old man from New Brunswick in Badger shortly before 10 o’clock last night. After issuing an amber alert over the supper hour yesterday, RNC issued a statement shortly after 2 o’clock this morning saying Melissa Morrell was okay. Police say the 72 year old man was seeking Morrell when he crossed over on the ferry yesterday afternoon. At 1:15 this morning, police entered a cabin in the Bay D’Espoir highway area and found the teen. In the cabin, a 63 year old woman and a 69 year old man, both from Milltown, were arrested. RNC say all 3 are facing charges that include abduction of a person under 16

On Friday, June 2, 2023, at 8:15 pm, the RNC responded to a missing person report regarding 14-year-old Melissa MORRELL, of St. John’s. MORRELL was last seen on Friday, June 2, 2023, at approximately 11:30 am in the area of Thorburn Road, St. John’s. Investigators believe that an unauthorized adult was providing guidance to MORRELL to travel across the province, potentially destined for New Brunswick.

At this stage in the investigation, the RNC has obtained information to indicate that MORRELL has been abducted by an individual who has not been identified by police. It is believed that the abductor is known to MORRELL.

MORRELL is described to be a female of about five feet in height, medium build, with light brown hair below her shoulders and brown eyes.

The RNC has concerns for the safety of MORRELL and ask the public to contact your local police or 911 immediately with information to assist. Please follow local media and RNC social media for updates.
