Mayor Jim Parsons says  this has been going on for several weeks now and it’s very frustrating to deal with since coin meters are hard to get parts and adjust when pricing changes.

About 30 percent of  the parking meters in Corner Brook have been vandalized and it’s not likely they will be replaced. Out of a total of 105 parking meters in the city, 32 have either been stolen or destroyed. Mayor Jim Parsons says  this has been going on for several weeks now and it’s very frustrating to deal with since coin meters are hard to get parts and adjust when pricing changes. He says it costs a lot of money to replace them and perpetrators aren’t getting a lot of money from them. Parsons says this is a system of social issues, namely drugs and addictions and staff are working with authorities to deal with this. He says the city is looking at different options like kiosks in the capital city. Parsons  says it will be a bit of a cost to replace them but replacing them with similar meters is a waste of time and money right now. The issue was discussed at last night’s public meeting.
