New rules were finalized in December that helped create a uniform policy for schools in all zones.

Students heading back to class this morning had better keep their cellphones out of sight, except during recess and lunch. It’s part of a new cell phone policy that kicks into effect today across the board. New rules were finalized in December that helped create a uniform policy for schools in all zones. Education Minister Krista Lynn Howell says for K-6 students, cell phones must be left home, except under special circumstances like medical. Howell says 40 percent of the 13,000 feedback providers were students. She says if it does become an issue, some intermediate and high school students may have to retrieve their phones from the principal’s office. Howell says the intention of this policy is to create safer schools and more appropriate learning environments.
