RCMP say 7 people were charged with impaired driving during this past long weekend. On Monday afternoon, Baie Verte RCMP were called to a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 410 and Route 414 near Baie Verte. Police say the driver, a 62 year old man, was not injured but failed a roadside breath test and later blew  more than twice the legal limit.  A 55 year old woman blew 4 times the legal limit at the Happy Valley-Goose Bay detachment. A 40 year old man was stopped in Harbour Grace and showed signs of drug impairment. RCMP are waiting on test results to lay a charge. A 59 year old man in Clarenville failed a roadside breath test and failed again at the detachment. At a checkpoint in Chapel Arm. a 36 year old man refused to provide a breath sample and was arrested for impaired driving. Also at the same checkpoint, RCMP charged a 45 year old man with impaired driving after he blew twice the legal limit. RCMP and RNC caught a 55 year old man at a checkpoint in Torbay. His breath samples were two-and-a half-times the legal limit. RCMP say six of these drivers received licence suspensions, were released from custody and are set to attend court at later dates to face charges, five with impaired driving and one with refusing to provide a breath sample.
