Funding will be used to continue the development of the planned 850 kilometres Great Coastal Trail as a world-class adventure tourism destination.

A $7 million dollar investment into the Great Coastal Trail was announced in Parson’s Pond yesterday. Premier Andrew Furey was joined by Immigration, Population, Growth and Skills Minister Gerry Byrne at the community town hall. Funding will be used to continue the development of the planned 850 kilometres Great Coastal Trail as a world-class adventure tourism destination. Byrne says this a game changer not only for the Great Northern Peninsula but the whole province. Work on the trail has already begun. This includes completion of an inventory of existing trails and bridges, as well as attractions and services. Consultations occurred with communities along the proposed route of the Great Coastal Trail this past summer, with positive feedback being received on the concept of the trail.
