Corner Brook MHA and cabinet Minister Gerry Byrne announced a $30,000 yearly scholarship is being created in Dave’s name by the provincial government.
As his brother Brian said, “This is probably NL’s best living room tonight”....at the Celebration of Dave McHugh Saturday at the Corner Brook Civic Centre. Dave passed away on November 17th. A large crowd showed their respects to Dave with life sized posters on the walls and about 30 local entertainers. Brian McHugh says it was easy to feel his brother’s presence and the family felt it was important to have this event. Bay of Islands MHA Eddie Joyce was there to make a presentation to Dave’s mother and family. He says Dave’s humorous wit was a gift from his mother. Joyce then presented Ann McHugh with the 75th Anniversary of NL Confederation with Canada award and medal, which he says is given out to people who make a difference in other people's lives. Mrs McHugh graciously accepted and says she still waits for her Davey to come home. Corner Brook MHA and cabinet Minister Gerry Byrne was also there to make an announcement. He says a $30,000 yearly scholarship is being created in Dave’s name by the provincial government. Byrne says every time Dave walked in the whole room changed and the world was better with his music box, drawing energy from the crowd, playing from the equator to the Canadian North, showing us a window to his magnificent soul. Donations from the event are going to the Western Regional Memorial Hospital and the Prostate Cancer Survivors Network.
