Funeral arrangements have been made for a well known local musician Dave McHugh, who passed away on Friday at the age of 57. A small and private gathering of family and friends will take place. Then, on November 30th, from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., relatives and friends of Dave are invited to commemorate him in a day of music, memories, and gratitude at the Corner Brook Civic Centre. At that time, donations in support of various charities (to be announced) will be accepted in his memory. Dave had once said that if people ever wanted to remember him, they could do an act of kindness for someone. Paul Pike is not only Dave’s cousin but grew up with him and formed a band called, “Illusion.” He says they needed a mic stand so Dave found a spruce pole and a hubcap, spray painted it grey. NTV Journalist Don Bradshaw says they weren’t best friends, but his friendship was the best. He says Dave had that smile, he was charming and charismatic, and always took time to talk to people. Dave’s sister Paula Mchugh-Grudich says he was the baby of the family. She says Dave helped all of them and had so many skills beyond music. He was a prodigy, and his poetry and songs said the things we all felt but couldn’t say. Dave left these words written in pencil, “The body is only one level of life; the better part is invisible. Our love is eternal and we will likely meet again.”
