Board Chair Kody Gardner says the station will be going from 50 to 2760 watts and the antenna will be higher, which means a drastic improvement for coverage in Corner Brook, the Bay of Islands, and into Pasadena and Deer Lake.
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission is conducting hearings today on 7 different radio applications. One of them is from Bay of Islands Radio Inc. Board Chair Kody Gardner says this broadcasting license would mean a much better signal for listeners of Bayfm. The station will be going from 50 to 2760 watts and the antenna will be higher, which means a drastic improvement for coverage in Corner Brook, the Bay of Islands, and into Pasadena and Deer Lake. BOIR Inc proposes to broadcast 126 hours of programming per broadcast week, of which 118 hours would be devoted to local programming. This would include five hours of local and regional news, 30 minutes of national news, and 30 minutes of international news. Gardner says comments on the proposal closed on August 1st and only one comment was received and it was support from the NCRA. Gardner expects to hear back soon from the CRTC. He says work on a new transmitter site is ongoing and nearing completion.
