Judy White, a Mi’kmaw from Flat Bay, has been appointed to the Senate of Canada. White is a King’s Counsel lawyer who has devoted her career to advancing human rights, Indigenous governance and legislative matters. She served as Director General with Indigenous Services Canada, previously served as an Assistant Deputy Minister with Indigenous Affairs in the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, and has the distinction as the first Indigenous woman to chair the province's Human Rights Commission.
