Justice and Public Safety Minister John Hogan read a statement in the house of Assembly yesterday acknowledging the 6,000 volunteer firefighters in this province. Hogan says, “Volunteer fire departments are the heart of so many of our communities. From fighting fires, to responding to emergencies, to organizing community events, volunteer firefighters make our towns safe and enjoyable places to live.” Hogan says, “province-wide Public Safety Radio is another tool being delivered into the hands of volunteer firefighters. Each volunteer fire department will receive at least two portable and mobile radios – that’s over 780 radios at a cost of $2.6 million. This will improve communication during emergencies.
