CMHI's Jade Kearley says there are 46 people in Corner Brook who can’t find a place to live.
Although Corner Brook doesn’t have a tent city, homelessness remains an issue in our community. People are in shelters, temporary accommodations at hotels, sleeping in vehicles or couch surfing. It is what is referred to as the hidden homeless. Jade Kearley is an Interagency Coordinator with the Community Mental Health Initiative Council. She says they’re asking the public to gather at Remembrance Square at 11 o’clock this morning for a walk to highlight homelessness here. Kearley says there are 46 people in Corner Brook who can’t find a place to live. She says she recognizes government and partners are doing what they can to create more affordable housing options, but more needs to be done for frontline workers. The homelessness awareness walk will start 11:30 a.m. at city hall, go up West Street and down Park Street to highlight the need for affordable, safe housing for all in our communities.
