Atlas Salt Inc. in St.George’s is getting a financial boost from ACOA. Minister Gudie Hutchings made the announcement yesterday. The repayable contribution of $1 million will support the company as they explore the use of low-emission battery-electric vehicles (BEVs), optimize mine design, and conduct geotechnical and hydrological studies. The project, located within the Town of St. George’s, is scheduled to begin construction this year, with production expected to start in 2029. Up to 300 full-time construction jobs and 170 permanent positions will be created. Hutchings says, “Mining has been part of our history for generations; embracing new technologies, we are setting the stage for an even brighter future right here at home.”
Government is seeking expressions of interest from not-for-profit organizations to develop, coordinate and implement pre-kindergarten programs. Sarah Thompson has the details….
These programs run full-time, including the summer months and traditional after school hours and operate in a school setting. Potential proponents should submit a licensing package by February 14th. There are currently 35 Pre-Kindergarten Program locations operating, representing more than 600 early learning and child care spaces. There are an additional 29 sites currently in development.
