As well, Eddie Joyce says social housing has been a long standing issue in Corner Brook and while for 50 units are welcomed, there are over 300 people on the waitlist.
Bay of Islands MHA Eddie Joyce believes if government is going to build infrastructure, there has to be a need first. In the House of Assembly Joyce says some issues today have been there for years. He says one example is the long standing need for affordable housing in Corner Brook and while 50 units are welcomed but there are over 300 on the waitlist. Joyce says last year, government committed to 500 cataract surgeries being done on a yearly basis going forward and now they’re back at 2019 levels with a waitlist starting this year. Joyce once again called on the Transportation Minister about the state of unsafe roads in his district, specifically the south shore. Later in the day, answered Joyce’s question by saying safety is priority first and they’ve also considered other factors on the highway and hope to address some of the MHA’s concerns soon. Abbott says the Transportation Superintendent of the region will keep in contact with Joyce over the summer.
