Eddie Joyce says Gerry Byrne is wrong when he says there could be a lack of timely permits and zoning issues. Joyce says he hasn’t heard one complaint from any developers in the area.
Bay of Islands MHA Eddie Joyce says comments made by Corner Brook MHA Gerry Byrne are wrong. This after government announced a call for proposals with $80 million available for 922 apartment units to be built across the province. Yesterday, on Bayfm news, Byrne questioned why only one developer applied to construct 6 apartment units in Corner Brook while both Deer Lake and Stephenville will get 20 units each. He says he’s hearing there are issues with getting permits in place on time and land issues, like availability and zoning. Meanwhile, Eddie Joyce says the Minister of Housing, Paul Pike, has already said what the issue is in Corner Brook and that’s because the federal government did not give any funding. Joyce says the Minister is aware there is a housing crisis in Corner Brook and admits there are units that just need to be repaired. He says Byrne is wrong when he says it could be a lack of timely permits and zoning issues. Joyce says he hasn’t heard one complaint from any developers in the area. He says the ones who will be hurt by this are those who don’t have a place to live.
