Anstey feels the biggest issue facing people today is the increasing cost of living and says people are feeling strapped having a tough time making ends meet.
Bayfm News will be featuring the five candidates running in the Long Range Mountains riding this week with a story each morning. Carol Anstey has been campaigning for the Progressive Conservatives for nearly four years now. She has four children and would like to see them have the opportunity to live, work and raise a family in NL. Anstey feels without changes to government, they won’t have the same opportunities that she had and what’s needed is economic growth and development in NL. She says the cost of living has to decrease in order for young people to have a good start in life.
Anstey feels the biggest issue facing people today is the increasing cost of living and says people are feeling strapped having a tough time making ends meet. She says deteriorating infrastructure is an issue especially in rural and remote areas with the state of roads. What she’s hearing at the doors in the riding is about healthcare, the lack of doctors, and the cost of travelling for healthcare.
Anstey says while health care is managed by the provincial government, the federal government could help, but not with money at this point. She says financially, the federal government pays more to service the debt than health care transfers for the provinces.
As well, Anstey says the fishery is very important to people in the riding and she can see potential opportunities in the industry with the comeback of Northern Cod. She says more can be done by operating more on the principles of adjacency so coastal communities can receive the biggest benefits. Also, Anstey also St. Anthony’s geographical location could secure a role in protecting our Northern arctic.
