Board Chair Kody Gardner says it’s been slow going but now the building and tower are there.
A project started at Bay of Islands Radio Inc. a couple of years ago to be able to boost the signal to reach more people and communities in the area. Board Chair Kody Gardner says at the time, the City of Corner Brook offered a piece of land off Mayfair Avenue to build a transmitter site. He says this would mean a better signal reaching more listeners. Gardner says it’s been slow going but now the building and tower are there. While nothing has been approved by the CRTC, last summer the agency announced they’re putting the brakes on new development for two years. Gardner says since they had so much invested in the project, the CRTC granted an exemption but they still need to call for comments and hold a hearing. He says the CRTC won’t be taking any new applications until August, 2025, and this is having a negative effect on many broadcasters in Canada. BayFM will inform listeners when public comments and hearings have been announced by the CRTC.
