This week’s topic on Bayfm’s “The Plain Truth” with host Paula Sheppard and NL health Services guests was “Safer Partying.” Yvonne Lane is a Regional Addiction Prevention Consultant. She says safer partying looks at things from a harm reduction approach and encourages people to think ahead. Make sure someone knows where you are going, have a fully charged cell phone, and know the surroundings of where you are going)
Tara Welsh is a Mental Health Promotions Consultant. She says plans need to be made while sober since when substances are involved youre not able to make decisions as normally would. The RNC are waiting for toxicology reports on two recent sudden deaths in Corner Brook and three other people were treated for drug use. Naloxone kits are available at mental health and addictions offices, the ER at Western Memorial Regional Hospital and at the Corner Brook Women’s Centre. People can also call 8-1-1 to find the nearest free naloxone kit.
