Regulations under the new Act, if approved, would require aquaculture operators to implement increased licensing and operating requirements, formalize aquatic animal health practices, prescribe mitigation and monitoring requirements and stringent public reporting requirements.

Government is proposing changes to the Aquaculture Act which will position this province as a respected global leader in aquaculture. This will modernize policy and regulations to provide guidance for the sector. Regulations under the new Act, if approved, would require aquaculture operators to implement increased licensing and operating requirements, formalize aquatic animal health practices, prescribe mitigation and monitoring requirements and stringent public reporting requirements. These improvements to the legislation would support the orderly development of an environmentally sustainable aquaculture industry, increased public trust, and the establishment of this province as a leader in aquaculture health and production.
