On Saturday, the RCMP held a news conference announcing a first-degree murder charge in relation to Jennifer Hillier-Penney.
Dean Frederick Penney, the estranged husband of Jennifer Hillier-Penney who is now charged with first-degree murder in her death, will appear in Corner Brook Provincial Court on Monday afternoon.
On Saturday, the RCMP announced that Penney had been arrested and charged after being picked up around noon on Friday in the Deer Lake area. Police would not confirm the exact location of his arrest.
RCMP have also confirmed that their recent presence in the area of Northwest Arm on the Northern Peninsula is connected to the investigation. It is around this location that Penney owns or had previously owned a cabin. Police vessels were seen active in the waters of this area.
Hillier-Penney was least seen in November of 2016 in St. Anthony. While no remains have been found to date, RCMP say there is sufficient evidence to charge 50 year-old Penney.
