Mayor Jim Parsons says money to be spent on recreation is focused on well being and includes more than just the rec centre, but programming and parks.
The city of Corner Brook will spend close to $6 million next year for recreation and well-being initiatives. At Last night’s public meeting, council provided a balanced budget at nearly $42 million, a 6.9 percent increase over last year. Mayor Jim Parsons says staff are very conscious about tax rates, especially with costs rising for everyone. He says municipal assessments will be going up by about 2 percent. Parsons says the cost of the new recreation centre represents 4.5 percent of the budget increase. He says money to be spent on recreation is focused on well being and includes more than just the rec centre, but programming and parks. Parsons says the city will also invest more in the annual Jigs and Wheels festival because locals enjoy the event and it increases tourism.
