Mayor Parsons and Deputy Mayor Linda Chaisson chose not to vote due to a conflict of interest.
Corner Brook council talked about code of conduct last night during their regular council meeting. The item was last on the agenda and dealt with a complaint made by a resident regarding the actions of the Mayor at a March meeting, where he used the gavel and had Councillor Charles Pender removed from the meeting. Under council procedures, conflict of interests have to be declared. The complaint was deemed to be not founded and was dismissed. Mayor Jim Parsons says he was shocked by the details of the complaint and some of the accusations were off base. Mayor Parsons says the fact that the complainant had a copy of the city’s procedures, leads him to believe someone from council provided them with that information, since it isn’t made public. Mayor Parsons says the issue of a crematorium on Country Road has gone on far too long and a decision was made by the previous council that is final. During a vote on the complaint dismissal, Mayor Parsons and Deputy Mayor Linda Chaisson chose not to vote due to a conflict of interest.
