Government has introduced a weigh station bypass option for commercial truckers which allows compliant drivers to go pass weigh stations, like the one in Pynn’s Brook. The service is provided by Drivewyze PreClear and uses GPS transponder technology to notify an on-duty Highway Enforcement Officer that a registered vehicle is approaching the scales. The driver gets a notification on when they can bypass the scales. The program saves trucking companies time and money by reducing delays and fuel costs when a truck pulls in and out of a station. It also reduces congestion at scale facilities and allows officers to focus inspections on vehicles with a higher likelihood of having defects or compliance issues. Newfoundland and Labrador is the third province to offer this service, joining Ontario and Alberta.
