Deputy Mayor Chaisson says she resigned from the board because she could not support something dealing with city employees.
There was a bit of a conflict of interest at last night’s public meeting at city hall. In accordance with the governance structure of the Western Regional Service Board the City of Corner Brook appoints two members of Council to serve on the board. Deputy Mayor Chaisson and Councillor Gill were previously appointed to serve on the Board, however Chaisson has recently resigned creating the need for a replacement. Mayor Jim Parsons volunteered to fill the role but first, cited a conflict of interest since he shouldn’t be able to vote for himself. Councillor Charles Pender expressed his concerns about the Mayor being on the board since he represents the city at many organizations. The Western Regional Service Board was also discussed at length during the last public meeting of council. Deputy Mayor Chaisson says she resigned from the board because she could not support something dealing with city employees. In the end, council decided to delay the matter until next meeting to find out if only one appointee to the board is sufficient. This after a tie vote on the Mayor assuming the role.
