Corner Brook city hall approved two change orders for the new Regional Recreation Center during Monday night’s public meeting. The orders total more than $79,000 and one is necessary to power wash the existing roof deck system to remove accumulated chlorides , as per the recommendation of the painting subcontractor. If the chlorides were not removed, the warranty would be null and void. The next order was needed for the costs associated with relocating emergency power panels to the gymnasium and change rooms so that the area can remain as an emergency shelter. Councillor Vaughn Granter asked about the total budget for the project. Director of Community, Engineering, Development & Planning, Darren Charters, explained how this is one risk of a design and build contract. The nearly $25 million centre is expected to be open by late March or early April.
