Mayor Jim Parsons says affordable, provincially owned housing is exactly what the city needs since there is a need for smaller apartments in this area. Immigration, Population Growth and Skills Minister and MHA for Corner Brook, Gerry Byrne says vacant units on Crestview Avenue will be demolished. He says  this is being done without any help from the federal government. There are currently 635 housing units in Corner Brook.
