Byrne says this money belongs to the Employment Insurance account from Newfoundland and Labrador workers and should be given back to Newfoundland and Labrador workers.

Corner Brook MHA Gerry Byrne continues to call on Ottawa to give the workers back their money and reverse cuts to Employment Funding. The feds plan to cut $625 million per year from Labour Market Transfer Agreements. Byrne  says the federal government’s solution to these cuts is to take the increased taxation room created by the new tax on capital gains and use that money for supported employment. Byrne says the provincial government will try to maintain core function for these affected organizations while they work to through this mess. Byrne says this money belongs to the Employment Insurance account from Newfoundland and Labrador workers and should be given back to Newfoundland and Labrador workers. Thirteen provincial and territorial Premiers, rallied by Premier Furey, have persistently informed the Prime Minister that these cuts are ill-advised and must be reversed. Newfoundland and Labrador has lost $16.8 million annually as a result.
