It’s usually hard to fit 50 candles on a cake, but the Corner Brook Status of Women will give it a try for their 50th anniversary next year. Spokesperson Paula Sheppard-Thibeau says they’re launching a form this week so people can nominate women of note which they will honour each week next year. She says they’re looking for nominations from throughout the west coast, and it can also be in memory of someone. Sheppard-Thibeau says they also have plans of creating a timeline of events over the past half a century. SOctober is also Women’s History Month. Sheppard-Thibeau says it’s a time to celebrate the achievements and contributions of women from a diverse background. She says while a lot of work has been done, there’s still more to do for equality, like equal pay, and child care is not always an availability. Keep an eye out for the nomination form on the Corner Brook Status of Women’s facebook page.
