The incident has forced the closure of the impacted runway and operations are being assessed.

The St. John’s International Airport is advising the travelling public of potential delays to flight operations for Wednesday evening, May 1.

According to the airport, a  charter aircraft overran the runway on landing late this afternoon. There are no known injuries to passengers or crew.

Many domestic and international flights leaving the island depart from St. John's, meaning some passengers flying from airports like Deer Lake could be affected. Some flights are scheduled between Deer Lake and St. John's this evening, though there is no word yet on any delays.

Meanwhile, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is deploying two investigators to St. John’s International Airport to investigate today's incident, which involved a De Havilland DHC 8-400 aircraft operated by PAL Airlines. The TSB will be gathering information and assessing the occurrence.
