ETC spokesperson Duran Felix says government’s approval of a 1km buffer zone between homes and turbines does not meet industry standards.

Some residents of the Port au Port Peninsula are adamantly opposed to the approval of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) submitted by WEGH2 and one group is even considering legal action. Duran Felix is the media contact with the Environmental Transparency Committee or ETC. He says the ETC believes government has not addressed the concerns and threats to our environment that were expressed in the thousands of submissions regarding this proposal and that the project should be relocated. World Energy GH2 Plans to construct hundreds of wind turbines along the southwest coast for the production of hydrogen, a first of its’ kind project in Canada. Felix says government’s approval of a 1km buffer zone between homes and turbines does not meet industry standards. He says studies have  shown adverse effects from the distancing they have approved. His analysis of the project shows the Port au Port Peninsula is too small to have a buffer zone greater than 1km. Felix says the residents and the Port au Port Peninsula should not be the “sacrificial lamb” for this green energy experimental project.
