FFAW president Dwan Street says they have issues with management measures that were put in place for the redfish fishery for inshore and outer trawlers.

There was a demonstration at Regent Square in Corner Brook yesterday where members of the FFAW wanted to make their message known to the DFO office inside. FFAW president Dwan Street says they have issues with management measures that were put in place for the redfish fishery for inshore and outer trawlers. She says a few weeks ago they held a demonstration about the depth restriction needed to be changed to where harvesters knew the fish were. Street says that was changed but now, there’s another issue. She says as of November 1st,  management measures require 100 percent observer coverage, meaning every vessel would need one. Street says there are 10 harvesters but only 4 observers which makes it impossible to land the quota.
