Byrne says while all sectors of the economy are affected , none more so than our fishery with 95 percent of snow crab landed last year going to markets in the U.S.

Fisheries Minister Gerry Byrne says the greatest economic threat, even bigger than the 1992 cod moratorium, has been targeted on us by a centuries old ally governed by Donald Trump. As of Tuesday, our country, province and our fishery faces a 25 percent tariff on exports to the U.S. Byrne says while all sectors of the economy are affected , none more so than our fishery with 95 percent of snow crab landed last year going to markets in the U.S. He says it’s a half a billion dollar enterprise that runs for four months that is caught in a web of tariffs.  Byrne says we are ready for this and will fight back with counter tariffs, diversification towards new markets is underway, and the Fisheries Market Diversification Fund will be rolled out. New markets in Canada, Europe and Asia will be created.
