Corner Brook’s transit system got a big boost from the provincial government on Friday, but more importantly, some will get a free year round bus pass. Corner Brook MHA Gerry Byrne announced $120,000 over a two year period to run a pilot project partnered with the city and Buckles Transport. He says this means free bus passes for those who are most vulnerable financially. Passes will be available to people receiving Income Support, youth receiving Youth Services from the Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development, and Seniors who receive the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS). Byrne says this will start April 1st. Meanwhile, $45,000 was also awarded to SABRI (St. Anthony Basin Resources Inc.) Transit for a bus pass pilot program.
