Government announces $20 million to be spent hiring new police officers

    his includes 19 additional RNC officers starting in 2026.

    Government is invested $20 million over the next two years to hire new police officers, with the RCMP and RNC. This includes 19 additional RNC officers starting in 2026 and 5 new RCMP officers for Happy Valley-Goose Bay. It will also include the establishment of a provincial, 10-member Joint Task Force Unit comprised of police officers to conduct targeted weapon, drug and contraband enforcement activities. An RNC leadership position will be created for the intimate partner violence unit. Support for ongoing police training, equipment, fleet, and operational requirements will also be provided.
