This includes the elimination of the $400 deductible for those who need to travel out of province, and an increase in assistance for those residents.

Government has announced improvements for patients who avail of the Medical Transportation Assistance Program (MTAP). This includes the elimination of the $400 deductible for those who need to travel out of province, and an increase in assistance for those residents. This change means that all residents of the province are entitled to the same airfare assistance rates. There is also an increase in the claimable rate for accommodations to $150 per night in-province and $175 per night out-of-province, and an increase in the vehicle mileage rate from 20 cents to 25 cents per kilometre for patients who drive more than 4,000 kilometres during a 12-month period. The newest 85 per cent airfare assistance rate will also be available for pre-approved flights booked through the new in-province Flight Voucher Program when airfare costs are greater than $8,000 over a 12-month period.
