Health Minister says only 700 nursing vacancies in NL

    Osborne says over 400 nurses have been recruited to the province since last year and vacancies are going down slightly from 760 to 700.

    Health Minister Tom Osborne provided an update on nursing vacancies in the province this week.  He says he was not aware the Newfoundland Labrador Nurses  Union had been asking for these numbers since October. When he did find out, he made sure the Nurses union had the information. Osborne says over 400 nurses have been recruited to the province since last year and vacancies are going down slightly from 760 to 700. Osborne says he’s hopeful they can reduce the  number of travel nurses through recruitment so they won’t be needed. He says recruitment is working but with baby boomers retiring, there are shortages in many areas and it’s challenging to fill careers.
