A rebellious teen who went on to receive the Order of Canada will take to the stage of the Arts and Culture Centre in Corner Brook tonight. Kelly Russell’s Who Knit Ya?” tour tells his story of beginning with learning how to play the piano with his mother and his dreams of being a rock star. Russell says the NL expression “Who Knit Ya” can mean parents or influencers. Throughout the show, Kelly plays piano, guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, concertina, dulcimer and, of course, fiddle, and shares two of his father’s most beloved “Tales from Pigeon Inlet.” Russell taught himself how to guitar and was part of the the formation of Figgy Duff and The Wonderful Grand Band, was friends with legendary fiddlers Rufus Guinchard and Emile Benoit, created his own record label, and has travelled worldwide.
