The Mayor of Stephenville says a major deal to sell the town’s airport to Carl Dymond is close to completion.

At last week’s council meeting, The Town of Stephenville filed a notice to stop funding to the Stephenville Airport Corporation ahead of its new ownership. In order to keep the airport afloat, the town has been supplying a monthly grant of over $32,000, which will stop next month.

Mayor Tom Rose also says the funds related to the sale were transferred to the town early last week. The sale will be officially finalized once it is proved that all conditions of the agreement have been met, including paying off the airport’s million dollar line of credit with the provincial government.

Dymond’s intention to buy the airport was originally announced in September of 2021 and has been the source of much scepticism among residents of the area.
