If someone is making minimum wage working 40 hours a week their annual income would be $31,200 meaning they have $10-11,000 available for housing.

Affordable Housing means only 30 percent of your income will be used for  rent or a mortgage plus utilities. So, if someone is making minimum wage working 40 hours a week their annual income would be $31,200 meaning they have $10-11,000 available for housing. Jade Kearley is with the Community Mental Health Initiative. She says there is very little affordable housing here. Kearley says rents start to get cheaper in the Bay of Islands, Deer Lake, and Pasadena areas. However, she says you end up paying in another way through transportation. Kearley says homelessness is hidden in Corner Brook with people in hotels, on couches, staying with friends, and more. She is also the co-chair of the Community Coalition on Housing and Homelessness. Kearley says Corner Brook’s emergency shelter is temporarily full. She says a housing support worker is available 388-4000 during weekdays and 24-hour help is available at 1-833-724-2444
