Rural economic representatives from all over the country are in Rocky Harbour
Federal MP Gudie Hutchings is back on home turf for the first ever Federal-Provincial-Territorial meetings on rural economic development. Hutchings is the federal Minister of Economic Development. She says 60 people are attending the 2 day event at Rocky Harbour and most have never been here. Minister Hutchings says a big issue is wi-fi and cell phone connectivity but says by 2030 the whole country will be connected says rural communities contribute a lot to this country, with 30 percent of the gdp and 20 percent of the country's population.First Nations Chiefs, departments’ officials, rural organizations and local experts responsible for rural economic development are also attending the meeting.
