A letter was circulated to parents or guardians this week about the norovirus, which is spreading in local schools. Public health officials are working with affected schools to help control the spread. The best method of prevention is by washing hands thoroughly with warm water and soap, especially before eating. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramping, low-grade fever, chills, aches, and tiredness. Kids that do get sick should stay home for at least three full days after symptoms disappear. This viral infection spreads easily from person to person. Affected people should drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration.
