May long weekend a safe one
RCMP are thankful this past weekend was without tragedy. Police say a number of impaired drivers were arrested throughout the weekend but the closest to the west coast was in Baie Verte. Cpl.Jolene Garland says it’s not the usual May 2-4 report without drownings or accidents. Cpl Garland says RNC and Highway Enforcement Officers were out along the west coast conducting a number of checkpoints. She says 215 motorists were stopped at a checkpoint on Riverside Drive and one vehicle was removed from the roadway due to it being unroadworthy. 7 drivers were issued warnings for various infractions. Later, police checked 150 vehicles in Pasadena, including 3 off road vehicles. One motorist was ticketed for having open cannabis readily available.
