David Brazil says long-term access to mental healthcare and support for those seeking treatment for their addictions must be central to government’s approach in pushing back against the opioid crisis.
Opposition Leader David Brazil says government needs to take a more proactive approach to providing support to addressing mental health and addictions. Brazil says people are dying and being denied care. “Put politics aside, let’s put the resources that are necessary, look at what has worked and enhance that, look at what hasn’t worked and change the approach,” he says. “We need to guarantee that if we are assessing someone for a mental health or an addictions issue, the support needs to be there.” Brazil says a more productive society benefits everyone. “People who are not troubled can gain from a more productive society ensuring all citizens are safe and have access to healthcare,” he says. “It’s an opportunity for everyone to come together and to support what is needed.” Brazil says long-term access to mental healthcare and support for those seeking treatment for their addictions must be central to government’s approach in pushing back against the opioid crisis.
