Saying the Prime Minister is in full panic mode, the leader of the opposition flew into Newfoundland on Friday to promote his “Axe the Tax” campaign, just a day after Justin Trudeau announced a new energy affordability program. Pierre Poilievre says the PM has been plummeting in the polls.
“He is afraid of losing votes and is trying to flip flop his way out of this carbon tax controversy,” says Poilievre. “But I can tell you Canadiians are too smart and they won't be fooled.”
Details of government’s new program include making it easier for people to switch from oil to a heat pump, and a three year pause on the fuel charge on heating oil deliveries. Poilievre says he’s not cutting the tax.
“He is just pausing it for 3 years, ”says Poilievre. “Which means he will add that tax and in the meantime, he is still taxing gas and groceries.
Meanwhile, Poilievre says he doesn’t expect an election soon.
