About 75 people blocked access to Barry’s fish plant in Benoit’s Cove late yesterday afternoon and into the evening.

They let fish plant workers through but produce wasn’t getting in or out. Johnny Gilbert is the FFAW rep for the Bay of Islands. He’s been a fisherman for decades and says they are protesting the Barry owned plant for refusing to buy lobsters. Gilbert says the price this week is 9 dollars a pound and Barry Group isn’t budging. He says a lot of people in this area depend on the fishery. Gilbert says the Barry Group is even refusing to sell bait to some harvesters. He says more protests are planned for today at different locations and they will keep it up until there’s a court order issued.
