Qalipu Chief says reconciliation between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous is improving

    Qalipu First Nations Chief Brendan Mitchell says Canada has adopted the United declaration on the Rights of Indigenous people but more needs to be done since the only province to adopt it so far is British Columbia.

    Many Indigenous groups gathered yesterday to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day and it was a huge success in Corner Brook. Qalipu First Nations Chief Brendan Mitchell says Canada has adopted the United declaration on the Rights of Indigenous people but more needs to be done since the only province to adopt it so far is British Columbia. Chief Mitchell says as far as truth and reconciliation is concerned, this government has done a lot with a lot of positive change and we are moving forward. June is a month to mark the vibrant traditions, stories and contributions of  Indigenous Peoples.
