Furey says Quebec is helping by providing resources but many parts of the country are also battling blazes.

Nearly ten thousand people were ordered to leave Labrador City after forest fires came within 6 km of the community. Premier Andrew Furey gave an update on the multiple fires on multiple fronts in the big land yesterday as Canada’s Premiers are there for a summer meeting. Originally, fires were burning about 600 hectares which increased in one day to 10,000 hectares travelling at a speed of 21 km per hour. Furey says Quebec is helping by providing resources but many parts of the country are also battling blazes. There is a fire ban across the island. Furey says if an incident broke out on the island portion of the province, fire officials would have to evaluate the situation,\ Meanwhile, at the Premiers’ meeting, Furey reiterated his stance on acquiring a regional forest fire centre to be located in NL. Furey thanked all teams involved in evacuations throughout Labrador and those battling forest fires.
