While the number of impaired charges has not increased from previous years, it has also not decreased.

RCMP Traffic Services have arrested nearly 320 drivers in 2024 due to impaired operation. This New Year’s Eve, if you are taking part in  cheer, including all forms of alcohol, or if you are consuming drugs, expect that you may be stopped and checked by RCMP.  Patrols will take place with zero tolerance for impaired operators. While the number of impaired charges has not increased from previous years, it has also not decreased. Motorists throughout the province can expect to see more check points and traffic stops where police officers will be focused on impaired drivers.  Officers are equipped with roadside screening devices capable of detecting alcohol and cannabis impairment. Plan ahead for your evening activities by arranging a designated driver.  Let’s keep our roads safe.
